Applied Behavior Analysis Minor

The B.A. in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis Minor program prepares students to positively affect socially important behaviors in a diverse range of individuals. Successful completion of this degree and coursework requirements will qualify graduates for certification as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® (BCaBA®) by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®).

Additionally, graduates of this Applied Behavior Analysis program will be prepared for specialized careers developing treatment plans that often include behavior modification, counseling, and medication. They will also be able to help individuals maintain positive behaviors, learn new abilities, and improve social interactions. Applied Behavior Analysts work in a wide range of professional settings, including:

  • Early childhood education
  • Hospitals
  • Clinics
  • Residential treatment centers
  • Service organizations

Measurement and Evaluation

This course instructs students in conducting an experiment in applied behavior analysis that is methodologically and logically sound, socially valid, ethical, and legal. Experimental designs used in applied behavior analysis, observation and data collection techniques, graphical and statistical analysis of data and procedures for getting a study approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) are also covered.

Functional Assessment

This course instructs students in how to conduct functional behavioral assessments, review assessment data, and develop interventions based on assessment data. Adaptive behavior and skill assessments, such as the Vineland II, ABLLS-R, AFLS, and VB-MAPP are also discussed.

Students must be enrolled in the B.A. Psychology program and must have completed 81 to 84 credits in the curriculum. A minor is declared by the student with the B.A. psychology department chair’s approval and ABA assistant chair notification.
