Students in the Police Psychology concentration within the M.A. in Forensic Psychology: Professional Counselor Licensure Track program are prepared to apply psychology within law enforcement and the legal system at large to diffuse potential conflicts. Coursework focuses on psychological issues inherent in all aspects of police work and administration. Police Psychology students gain a comprehensive understanding about police administration and are able to analyze policies and procedures on topics such as police personnel selection, instruction, and training. Graduates are prepared to apply psychological theory in a wide variety of settings—from de-escalating domestic disputes to dealing effectively with mentally ill offenders.
M.A. in Forensic Psychology, Police Psychology: Anaheim Student Experience
Conveniently located at the intersection of three major highways with direct access to public transit, our new Anaheim Campus is located inside Stadium Tower across from Angel Stadium and the Honda Center. The top floor a 12-story building with 365-degree views of Orange County, the campus provides 4,500 square feet of classroom space as well as common areas for community building, group studying, and small meetings.
Located in a developing entertainment center, students at The Chicago School’s Anaheim Campus have easy access to all the city has to offer, including museums, parks, concert venues, sporting events, and world-famous attractions.
Anaheim is home to the second-largest business park in Orange County with headquarters and principal offices for major corporations, allowing for networking and possible job opportunities upon graduation.

Police Organization and Administration
Analyzes the policies and procedures of police organization and administration. Topics include personnel selection, instruction and training, performance appraisal, group performance and decision-making, job satisfaction and organization commitment, and leadership and supervision.
Violence and Risk Assessment
Provides students with the fundamental aspects of conducting violence and risk assessment evaluations and the manner in which opinions are communicated. Students gain an understanding of empirically-based risk factors and assessment tools used to conduct violence and risk evaluations, as well as management strategies employed to ameliorate risk/risk conditions. Practical exercises drawn from actual cases are used to illustrate key concepts.
Family/Partner Violence
Emphasizes the dynamics of domestic violence in intimate relationships. Assessment, treatment, and prevention strategies for both the victim and perpetrator of domestic violence are examined. Ethical and legal concerns related to reporting of domestic violence are made explicit.

Students applying to the M.A. in Forensic Psychology program must submit the following:

- Essay – Please answer the following question within three double spaced typed pages (approximately 500-750 words). Essay must specifically address the program/specialization for which you are applying.
- Psychology is a vast discipline with many career options. In an essay format, please describe:
- Why you chose this particular program/specialization making sure to cite specific experiences and examples.
- Why it is important to you to study this discipline at a school that emphasizes cultural awareness, competence, and understanding of diversity.
- Your professional career goals as they relate to this specialization.
- Why you believe this program will assist you in reaching these goals.
- Psychology is a vast discipline with many career options. In an essay format, please describe:
- Official College/University Transcripts
- Students must submit official transcripts from all schools where degrees have been earned. The Chicago School requires that all schools be regionally accredited higher education institutions. Official transcripts may be sent directly from the institution or with your application for admission as long as they are official, sealed, and signed across the envelope flap when they arrive.
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- Appropriate recommendations are from professors and/or supervisors from significant work or volunteer experiences, who can appraise your academic or professional performance. If you are mailing in your letters, they should arrive in a sealed envelope, signed across the seal. You can also submit the letters via the applicant portal.
- Aside from general admission requirements, this track requires an applicant to have successfully completed (with a grade earned of ‘C’ or better) at least one (1) undergraduate course in either statistics or research methods. Applicants without one of these courses must complete them in accordance with the policies outlined in the Progression Requirements section of the Catalog.
- Optional: Â Official GRE scores may be used to enhance your application
- You must arrange for your official GRE scores to be sent to the school. Our school code is 1119.
- Students who have yet to take the GRE examination should contact them at GRE.org to register for an exam date.
- Students who have taken the test within the last five years should contact them at GRE.org, to have their scores forwarded directly to the school.
