The M.S. in Clinical Psychopharmacology, Illinois Prescriptive Authority Preparation Track program is designed for students who are current clinical psychology practitioners and leaders who wish to expand their knowledge base in psychopharmacology, including the medical conditions that are relevant to mental health care. Students will learn how to increase their current competency in key areas, such as:
- Assessment
- Diagnosis
- Intervention
Additionally, students will engage in case-based learning that can enhance their collaborative practice skills.
The Illinois Prescriptive Authority Preparation Track consists of all the courses from the coursework only track, but with the addition of 18 clinical rotation courses and a Clinical Competency Examination.Â
The M.S. Clinical Psychopharmacology Program of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is an approved Prescribing Psychologist Clinical Rotation Program by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

On February 5, 2021, the Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology program offered at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology received designation for a 3-year period by the American Psychological Association (APA), with the next application for renewal of designation due in 2023. Designation is the process for quality assurance of training programs in psychopharmacology that is conducted by APA.

Clinical Anatomy and Integrated Science
This course is designed to emphasize the concepts and structures of human clinical anatomy. Students will receive lecture and/or lab instruction providing clinical anatomy terminology with general concepts of the musculoskeletal system, the organ systems of the thoracic and abdominal cavities, the vascular system, the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. A description of the functional properties of each of these areas is also discussed. The course is designed to provide the psychopharmacology student with a clinical anatomy perspective, which they can integrate into their basic science studies of physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and clinical studies.
Advanced Pathophysiology
This course is designed to offer students in clinical psychopharmacology a physiologic understanding of normal organ and system function and disease processes. Cellular physiology, immunology, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine physiology and hepatic and renal functions, as well as pertinent disorders in each area will be studied. Clinical cases will be presented throughout the course to highlight pathophysiological conditions and their interaction with mental and emotional functioning.

Application to The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s post-doctoral Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology program is open to any person who has earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from a regionally accredited institution and is licensed or eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Illinois, and who meets other entrance requirements.

- $50 application fee
- Proof of licensure or license eligibility as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Illinois.
- A graduate GPA of a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is expected for admission.
- Applicants must submit official transcripts from all schools where a degree was earned. It is recommended that transcripts are submitted from all schools where credit was received to enhance their applications.

Fellowship
The Fellowship in Psychopharmacology was established for students accepted into the M.S. Clinical Psychopharmacology and M.A. Psychopharmacology programs to recognize their pursuit of new and innovative training in the fields of psychology and integrated health care.
