More information about education benefits offered by the VA is available at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.)
The military and veteran tuition rate is determined for each fiscal year and remains in effect for that year. The rate applies to future terms only and is not retroactive to current or prior terms. Changes in the military and veteran tuition rate will be closely tied to any subsequent change in The Chicago School’s published tuition rates, and the rate does not apply to institutional fees or other charges. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the desired program and must remain in academic and financial good standing, meeting all satisfactory academic progress requirements, to retain the rate. A student may be required to resubmit documentation annually.
The military and veteran tuition rate cannot be combined with other special tuition rates. Federal work study, college work study, volunteer, and positions secured by students to complete their degree requirements (e.g., practicum or internship experience) are not considered qualifying positions for special tuition rates.
Military Tuition Assistance
Congratulations on taking the next step in your educational journey. As a part of this process, it’s important that you understand the benefits for which you’re eligible. Active-duty servicemembers have a variety of financial resources available to them, such as the Federal Military Tuition Assistance Program and the Top-Up benefit, which are designed to help pay for your education.
The Federal Military Tuition Assistance Program
Before you can apply for Federal Military Tuition Assistance (TA), you must receive college counseling from your installation’s education office and develop an education plan. Once that’s completed, you can submit your TA request.
In order to be considered for TA, you’ll need to submit a completed authorization form to your military university representative at least two weeks before your class start date. Depending on your branch, you may be eligible to receive up to 100% federal TA for military service, with a limit of $250 per credit hour and a limit of $4,500 per year.
Federal TA funds are a unique, distinct source of financial aid available to eligible service members, and such institutions must identify TA as a first payer.
Tuition Assistance Application Process
Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. Visit your local installation education center or click on the link below for information from your specific branch of service:
Keep the following information in mind when you apply to a program:
Active-duty and reserve service members and their families should visit the education office on their assigned military installation and speak with their assigned educational services officer (ESO) or approved installation staff prior to enrolling. National Guard and reserve service members who do not have an ESO at their installation can contact their regional office for support.
You may be required to develop an education plan or complete TA orientation before you enroll.
The Veterans and Members of the Military Scholarship was established to support continuing students from the military community in pursuit of their educational and career goals.
